Artists of La Crosse: Stevie Sam
Artists of La Crosse, WI: This is a series dedicated to local artists of the La Crosse area.
The purpose of this project is to bring awareness to the art community, what artists stand for, their purpose, their mediums, about the artist them-self and most importantly to connect everyone to one another. For my project, I will be creating a piece dedicated to the artist and their art. It is a piece that integrates the two together; The process of this involves me taking a portrait of the artist and then creating a double exposure of the artist with their art
In conclusion ~ Make art of the artist and their art
It's like art to the third power or art inception!
This is a fun and interactive way for other artists to meet one another or learn about eachother. I will be sharing a new artist weekly so please make sure to check back in to see the new featured artist.
as always~ Enjoy!

When did you notice that you had a love for art?
6th grade when I heard these three albums, ‘The Carter 3” by Lil Wayne, “808s & Heartbreak” and “Graduation” by Kanye West. This is when I fell in love with music. Before I knew it music had consumed my life and i listened to
Are you originally from La Crosse? If not, where are you from and how long have you lived here?
I'm originally from Atlanta, Ga. I’ve been in La Crosse for 4 years.
Growing up what were your major influences as an artist? Other artists, Life events?
Lil Wayne, 08’ Kanye West, Kevin Gates, & Future, were my early major influences. Now I am inspired by art itself regardless of what form it is.
What message do you want to share about your art?
That your art is unique to you and that no matter the comparisons or the similarities that people try to place on you, you are unique and what you bring to the art world cannot be duplicated.
What do you stand for as an artist?
I stand for those who do not have a voice, but the urge for one. Growing up, I felt as if I didn't have a voice. So,i listened to music I felt that match the mood I was in or what I was trying to convey but didn’t have the words for.
What is your process or headspace you get into while creating new pieces?
Has to be completely quiet with only the music playing. It is the only way I can focus.
What does the piece you chose for this project mean to you? Why did you choose this one vs other pieces you have created?
I chose the album where it all began. So the definition of “Reform” is to make a change in something in order to improve it. What I was “reforming” was my life, my habits, and my mindset. I was changing how I saw myself in the mirror and I no longer wanted to be that man in the mirror. The cover art is a collage of all the pictures I have had taken of me or was in up until that change was made. It was a reflection of my past life/self. If you listen very closely to the EP, each song is a story that leads into the next that depicts my life, upbringing, my thoughts, and challenges with mental issues.
